DESIGN & SERVICES

Please keep in mind, work shown in my portfolio follows the style of the Firm I’m employed by. I am seeking personal clients to create truly custom space for those who they are designed for. It’s an opportunity to test my ability, develop a unique style, and explore new concepts.

APPROACH

Design is about relationships. Relationships guide design, which ultimately forms the experience the user will have. Whether the relationship is between the client and the space, materials, color, individual plants selected or connection to the surrounding landscape. It is the relationship between the existing fabric in and around a space crossed with new intervention that makes a space belong.

My focus is to use relationships to create contemporary, well finished, sustainable spaces that provide memorable experiences of belonging for those who use them, year round. A well designed garden will carry beauty through even the depths of winter. A garden is a living, breathing, ecosystem, it changes day to day and year over year. With a passion for plants, this change is a part of the design and experience created.

SERVICES

Educated as a landscape architect with years of professional experience in design/build settings working on hundreds of projects, large and small, across all space types, I’m adept in helping clients through the entire design process.

  • Designed to be an open resource to you and your space. It is an opportunity to meet, get an understanding of existing conditions and to have an informal conversation about what you may be looking to do with the space.

The consultation is suitable for those who may be looking to renovate their space but are not sure where to start, what possibilities may be, or would like guidance on what can be done to improve the space.

  • Master planning is an in depth, all encompassing design process geared toward new gardens from the ground-up or existing gardens with substantial renovations. The process itself is a study, from working with existing conditions to create a spatial layout and inclusion of major elements, to how the plan takes form through custom detailing, material selections, furniture and plant combinations to keep the garden alive yearlong. When complete, a detailed package is ready for tender. Process is as follows:

    - Initial Consultation

    - Concept Development

    - Layout + Design Development

    - Planting Plan

    - Documentation

  • Planting is the most flexible component of any garden renovation and can have the most impact even with the smallest changes. There are a few sub-categories involving planting and ways to approach planting:

    Formal Planting Plan

A formal plan is best for a new garden or one with substantial changes. It will involve creating a scaled plan, documenting any existing plant material and their locations. This will help with creating a new pallet of plants for the desired style. The final plan will show the removals, re-locations, new additions, locations, and quantities of all plants specified.

    Informal Planting Selection

Informal planting selection offers a more streamlined approach and is suitable for smaller planting related projects in new spaces or existing gardens. A site visit will take place to observe what is already growing, and new additions or relocations can be suggested with no formal planning. Placement on site can be arranged for DIY installation.

    Accent Pots & Planters

A solution for renters to have a garden or to polish an existing space, add structure, or showcase key specimens. Pots can be planned formally or informally depending on the scale of the project.

    Seasonal & Holiday

Celebrates the upcoming season with a dressing of accents. Generally four changes per year which can fill the front steps, window boxes, planters for the upcoming season.

  • Furniture can be a polishing element to every outdoor space… and every garden needs a place to sit. Whether built in, modular, or custom designed, the design process will see what works best for the space while sizing appropriately and selecting quality materials that will hold up with the elements. This scope of work can also include sourcing and procurement.

  • Most that have gardens don’t have knowledge or time to keep their space is in top condition.

This service is designed to have a yearly, quarterly, or monthly visit to the garden to inspect its overall condition, plant health, hardscape issues, and provide suggestions based on site observations. This service could also include managing third party contractors such as landscapers or irrigation specialists.

  • Maintenance is currently offered to design clients with completed gardens.

It is important to keep up on maintaining the garden to ensure the vision is maintained and no one can do this better than who designed it. Maintenance requirements will vary from garden to garden, generally quarterly is recommended, although monthly during the growing season can be arranged.

A maintenance guide can be created for DIY, personal gardeners or landscaping contractors to maintain gardens as they were intended.

  • Lighting helps define the mood for evening hours, extend the use of space, but can also accent key elements such as specimen planting, seating areas or sculpture. Generally included in large scopes of work, but can be added to existing spaces.

  • Sourcing

Some items should be carefully selected and collected:

    - Plant Material

    - Specimen trees, or rare plants.

    - Furniture, Furnishings, Unique Accents

    - Art + Sculpture

    Contractor Coordination

For installation, build projects, and custom fabrication, preferred vendors can be coordinated with.

    Approvals

Projects requiring permissions, permitting, and structural detailing, may require third parties. Facilitation with preferred vendors for the approval process can be provided.
